It looks like Reilly has been asked to organise a pre season list of matches and overseas training. It's all very low key but at least it gives us some sort of structure.

We even get a visit from one of the big boys .... Middlesbrough. Very Happy

Better than nothing at all - hopefully it will give the players a chance to warm up again. Wonder if the Nantes one was part of the Veretout deal? Suspect Boro was a result of us desperately ringing round to get a game against somebody, anybody for the customary end of pre-season glamour home game.

I think Nantes were expecting a visit from a Premier League team! Very Happy

Confirmation that the bulk of the players report back for pre season training tomorrow. I hope we have plenty of stuff to discuss and debate on this thread in the next few weeks. Pre season training discussion 205019816

A lot of work to be done and not just on fitness. I expect speculation will step up as RDM finds out who are the workers and who are the shirkers.

A good read there. Pleased to hear about how Grealish is approaching next season with a better attitude. I still think Gabby ought to be bombed out though and hopefully RDM agrees.

I don't think the fans would support a team on the pitch that includes Gabby. For that reason alone I can't see any way back for him.

Especially considering how I sincerely doubt he would justify any faith placed in him.

My Feelings towards Gabby are that Villa need to be ruthless this summer start, we cant afford to be soft in our approach to sorting out the rotten underbelly of the club and unfortunately Gabby was part of the problem. Gabby at his best had a lot to offer however I just think too much has gone on, too much abject failure and I'm not sure that Gabby's confidence and focus will ever return to what it once was. That said I do recognise Gabby's contribution in the MON era, he speed was always something to get the fan of their feet at villa park. His ability to score in local Derbys was also a real high note. I guess Time will tell and RDM will make his judgement based on training however if RDM does decide to keep Gabby then he will have to carefully manage him and to use a cliche put an arm round him and make him feel wanted, as thats the only way to get the best out of Gabby.

You're up early Jim! Very Happy

"Gabby at his best has a lot to offer". I agree 100%. Part of me want's to see him ripping teams a new one again, but the realist in me says he's burnt his bridges. If his behaviour behind the scenes was as described by various 'sources' then he was a big part of why we were so bad and got relegated last season. Fans will not forgive him and give him a second chance this season, so there will be booing and chanting at every match in which he is involved no matter what RDM thinks or does. That in turn would be hugely damaging to our attempt to build team spirit and get promoted.

They're back! cheers

Now we can get our daily fix of all things AVFC. RDM must read the riot act to all the Villa players today, and also text his warning to those players still on international leave. They need to understand that unless they are willing and able to bust a gut for the team and the fans, they will be out the door. No whinging, no arguing, no egos. Villa first, nothing else matters! UTV !!!!!!

I've been heartened by how some of the younger players have been looking ahead to returning to training. Stories about Grealish going through a fitness regime rather than getting Gabbied whilst on holiday and a few tweets from the likes of Gardner showing that they recognise it's a big season for them.

Jack has got to be consistent with his dedication. Gardner is always the fittest at the beginning of pre season. He just has to pray that he doesn't pick up another debilitating injury! It's good to see players appearing to have learnt something from previous experiences. Let's hope this is a majority attitude at BMH.

Aye. Hopefully RDM is able to stamp a whole new ethos around the place. I think having guys like Elphick and the inspirational Petrov around for pre-season will help in that.
