God bless the festive period and it's congested run of fixtures to distract us from spending time with our families and all the crap on TV.

It's yet another home game and we shall be facing Leeds. They're doing well under Garry Monk and in fact out of their last ten games they've only lost two and these have been against Newcastle and Brighton the top two sides. They also saw us off fairly consummately earlier this month at Elland Road so we know this won't be an easy game. However, we've become fairly good at grinding out positive results so maybe we shouldn't be counted out.

So what do we expect on Thursday evening?

I feel that our current level of performance is somewhat short of the level it needs to be and so we will be found out in this one. 2-1 to Leeds. The law of the ex points to McCormack getting ours.

Yesterday's performance leaves me in no doubt that we will struggle against Leeds. This has me scratching my head because on paper we will again have the better players. Sadly football is not played on paper, it's played on the pitch, and we keep being made to look poor by some ordinary committed footballers who stick to their game plan.

Maybe this could be the night when everything clicks? I'm going with my heart for a narrow Villa win. My head says "you're joking"!

This game is massive and Villa need to have a cup final mentality towards this fixture. Our chances of auto promotion are long gone, and whilst a playoff spot might be a possibility at the moment its a outside shot as all of the other teams continue to win. I thought that the form of the teams ahead of us would be far more inconsistent than its been, but unfortunately it seems that the championship seems to becoming two tiered this season, theres a long way to go and lets hope that changes but we cant rely on others dropping off the pace. For me its clear what we have to do we need to win against the teams ahead of us starting with leeds! Ive just got a sneaking feeling we might win this one but don't ask me why!

There are two ways that this could be turned into a win. The first is that we step up. We did that once, what feels like a long time ago, against Brighton in the second half where we got a draw and really could have won with a bit more luck. There are a few factors that mean we can pin hopes on that happening again. First of all, was that when we were playing Brighton we were playing one of the best teams in the division. We knew that and consequently knew we had to perform. I think looking at their position and form and recalling the result at Elland Road we certainly won't be under-estimating Leeds. The big question is whether we will ever scale those heights with the current group of players.

The second way that we might get something is if we grind it out as we have done against lesser teams so far this season. But that usually gets found out against better sides.

My birthday, and I'll be very happy if we get three points out of it. It's likely to be a difficult game, possibly our most difficult to date at home.

On reflection, I'll be very happy if we still have our unbeaten home record intact come full time.
