Sometimes a picture speaks more eloquently than the written word. This picture tells us why we will not be promoted this season.

With a clutch of new signings and Kodjia back we will be much stronger for the Brentford game in a week's time.

I'm starting to think "in the shirt and on the pitch" before I get my hopes up Sandie.

Can we start to dream of 'play offs' glory?

We have a lot to do before we can even begin to dream, we are a long way off in terms of points and new players might not gel immediately.

We have to think in terms of winning the next game. As long as we do that anything is possible.

If we end up in one of the top six positions at the end of the season, then I actually fancy our best eleven players to beat whoever we come up against in the play offs. I wouldn't have said that a few weeks ago.

Our faint hopes of promotion are well and truly buried, so now's the time to start preparing for next season. I'm not advocating getting rid of Steve Bruce even though I'm holding him to account for our current negative and ineffective play. I want him to sit down with Steve Round and design a methodology to get the best out of the good players we now have. It has to be a positive system which will allow our best players to actually do what they do best. We have better players than any other Championship team bar Newcastle, and we have to make sure that we set up to play in such a way as to fully utilise these players.
Bruce's post match interview indicates that his "new system" is not designed to do this .... which is a worry!
I know that managers do not like interference in the footballing side by other club employees, but the reason I say that Bruce must sit down with Round and come up with a plan, is because Round has made it clear that he wants a cohesive system that is taught from Academy level upwards. The current "plan" will totally impede development of skilful well rounded footballers, as well as bringing our first team down to a level that will make Championship survival difficult, and Premier League membership impossible.
It's time to forget egos and do what has to be done to get the best out of our highly paid players.
