After yesterday's disappointment we are back in action on Saturday and boy this is a big one. It's always good to put these upstarts back in their box but I think it's crucial for more reasons than that. Put simply, we need to start to pick up points and wins and a local derby also carries that extra boost in confidence that can carry a team onwards. That will be useful ahead of our next game, the League Cup match against that crap championship team I can't remember the name of.

West Brom sit just above us in the league with one point more. So far this season, they have drawn with Southampton and Watford and nicked a win at Stoke. Their other two games were losses to Manchester City and Chelsea. Rondon has looked decent and they also have Berainho back in the picture following his transfer window hissy fit so they might provide a challenge for our creaking disorganised rabble of a defence. I feel in our last three games Sherwood has had his pants pulled down by Pardew, Advocat and Ranieri all of whom are experienced managers who've been round the block and we'll be facing another one in noted baseball cap enthusiast and defensive football specialist Tony Pulis.

Still, we showed something against Leicester. We scored two crackers and dominated - for a half - so we can't be too dishearted by things. We have some more talented players to come back in that we were without against Leicester and we might just be able to teach them a footballing lesson. Both teams will be well up for this.

Time for my waffle to subside and ask - What's it going to be: Win, Lose or Draw?

I've decided to listen to my heart and say this will be a 2-1 Villa win. Sinclair and Grealish to score.

Gonna say win, but only because we are desperate for one. Timbo needs to start with the same team as on Sunday then not make any stupid substitutions.

Hopefully he'll have Gana, Traore, and Ilori to add in to the equation.

2-2 with us losing another 2-0 lead. Yes I know Sunday knocked the stuffing out of me, again.

Think we'll lose this one as well with the pressure starting to build on Sherwood who I didn't want as manager.

Hopefully he'll play as well against them as he's always seemed to against us. A Lescott goal at the Holte End would be great. They'll be well up for this (WBA) after the two defeats at VP last year, but then we need to be well up for it too. TS needs to get it spot on as well.

I guess last week showed how hard it will be to win a game in the league this year. Losing like that as galling as it was can sometimes serve very well in the long term as long as all involved take it on the chin and learn from their mistakes. Sherwood must learn to be make substitions that are relevant to the game itself. Our players must learn to play more than just a half of a match and to work as a team for 90 mins. If we can take the positives and learn the lessons then we may well be in the same position against the baggies and take a lead into half time and hopefully this time we can see the game through.

I will go with a 2-1 in this one

In all likelihood, Pulis is going to park the bus here so I'd like to see Gil keep his place as he's exactly the type of player that could help us break down that kind of side. Some may argue he's not the player for a blood and thunder local derby (just as Sherwood didn't think he was the player for a relegation battle last season) but I think we need some creativity to beat the Albion. If we play too defensively it will stifle us and we concede too many stupid goals to do that.

Both Traore and Gana are listed as extremely unlikely to take part this weekend, which is a shame.

It's time for a change .... same old, same old is not getting it done any more. A defensive centre midfield trio has dominated our shape to the detriment of the team as a whole. How can the team flow as a unit when activity at the centre of our team looks like the build up to a hurricane on a weather map .... going round and round in ever decreasing circles. One defensively minded midfielder, and then add five players who look like they're interested in assisting and scoring goals please Tim!

Sounds simple, doesn't it? I was surprised by that post a couple of weeks ago when someone (I forget who, apologies to them) that pointed out that most Premier League teams play one defensive midfield player and the rest attackers. Whilst I had realised that our three was daft, I'd have pegged two as the norm. That it's one just makes it look even more daft. Our first half against Leicester with Gil in for Gana showed just what a difference having attacking players in makes.

Something not lost on me is that for a team that plays so many defensive midfielders we don't half concede a lot of goals.
