With basically the same team and tactics as yesterday, we will probably lose. We may well beat ourselves again.

I wish I could be upbeat and confident. We're Villa .... We're a big club playing a large number of smaller clubs this season .... we should be one of the favourites for promotion. Sadly none of this rings true to me at the moment.

Sheffield Wednesday v Aston Villa: Sunday 7th August 16:30 205019816 I'll post a couple of scarves to try and give us a lift, but I'm just not feeling it. Sheffield Wednesday v Aston Villa: Sunday 7th August 16:30 205019816

Dr Tony's tweets about stuff happening last week have come to nothing. We needed stuff to happen.

This has the potential to be painful.

If RDM has been telling Dr T that we have the right players but they've just been mismanaged and we need to wait patiently for a couple of additions to become available, then I can understand why Tony feels secure at the moment. He doesn't have the hard earned painful experience that we fans do. Neither does RDM when it comes to our current squad.

I was really excited (for some reason) about the Championship season to start with. However, now I've lost most of the enthusiasm I had. Just not feeling it right now. Maybe by Sunday that will have changed.

It's not possible to get excited about the same players and tactics that got us relegated.

No, its not.

The doctor and RDM need to act immediately, otherwise the already likely minimal honeymoon period will be non-existent.

I think it's unlikely we will get any signings in before the game. If a signing was close there would be mounting speculation but the only story really going round right now is McCormack.

I think Sheffield Wednesday will be too organised for us. They looked very well coached during the later part of last season.

I've been thinking about this and what kind of team we should deploy. My current thoughts are:

Golini

Richards (lets put him in the shop window. And shore up our back four to allow LB to attack)
Elphick
Baker
Amavi (or Bennett if JA's fitness isn't quite there)

Gardner
Tshibola
Veretout (but expecting Westwood)

McCormack
Gestede
Ayew

Thoughts? Any other ideas?

Like that side Sandie. The Mccormack signing will hopefully give our team a bit of confidence within matches. As his goalscoring record is so consistent he will given the players belief that we can get goal at any minute. The defence I is a real work in progress, looking for some movement in and out earl y next week, it's important that we sort out the problem right back position asap. Vertout in the in the side, should provide a nice link to our potent Strikeforce, this looks good!

I like that team Sandie. I might choose to go with Toner at right back because he would do a no nonsense defending job and allow Amavi to get forward, so that we would still have a strong three at the back. I love the front six though.

Yes, with Amavi in the team there is a need to try and balance the attack and defense capabilities of the back four. That's why I opted for Richards after much thought. Hadn't really thought of Toner.
