Go back just five years and no one would believe you if you told them this would be a league fixture on boxing day 2017 but it is and it's a local derby too so an intriguing contest. Burton have proven to be no mugs in the Championship but sit in 21st having lost their last three games. They will inevitably be well up for this one and see it as one of their biggest games of the season (in fairness most clubs in the Championship think of us that way). However, with this being a local derby and with us being in front of what's meant to be a near sell out (with the Upper Trinity re-opened) I don't think we will under-estimate this one.

So do we expect a merry festive period or a return to disappointment?

I think this match perfectly sums up the effect of our totally incompetent previous owner. Randy was a man who thought that it wasn't necessary to employ people with football experience to run a football club .... The result AVFC v Burton Albion !

Fair play to Burton for performing miracles because they are punching way above their weight, but anything other than a win for us is unthinkable if we are serious about getting promoted.

The transfer window opens in just over a week and we need a couple of wins to make us a more attractive proposition to potential signings.

3-1 to Villa. Aston Villa V Burton Albion Boxing Day 15:00 205019816

I think the two clubs can be seen as mirror images. Burton well ran and punching above their weight, us poorly ran and punching below our's. I wish them well in 44 of their league fixtures this season.

I think the way that we fail to play to a consistently good standard nothing can be guaranteed. I'm saying another ground out 1-0 win. Claimed with a Jedinak header.

It's surreal thinking about the current parity between Villa and Burton.

Could easily have been Walsall too. It will be a surreal occassion seeing this fixture in the league and for it to be at a packed Villa Park too. Closely followed by another large crowd against Leeds which is a fixture that will be equally surreal (two huge clubs playing each over in the Championship).

The sell out crowds have come at the right time with the transfer window fast approaching. It will add a "feel good" vibe around Villa Park that may attract better players. It will also reassure Dr T that his considerable investment is starting to become visible in it's effect.

We just need positive results and good performances to keep the crowds there.

Can we win our fifth game in a row at Villa Park? A sell out crowd deserves a cracking game, and that will bring the back for more. Three points would help as well.

That's a physically strong team. I guess we intend to keep it tight and make it difficult for Burton for the first two thirds of the match, before bringing on Grealish and Ayew, or maybe Gestede. I think our style of play is fairly predictable at the moment, but as long as it results in three points today I'll take it.

I have a good feeling about today. Maybe a rare goal for McCormack?

1-0 Villa. A very good cross from Adomah and Bacuna finishes with a cracking header. It shows what we can do when we get the ball and bodies into the box.
