Bruce going mad at Hutton for being up by Burton's corner flag instead of back defending!

Three points .... 2-1 Villa! We played poorly and Bunn had to make a great save after we gave away yet another stupid free kick. We hung on by the skin of our teeth, and won a really scruffy game. Still .... three points are three points even though we continue to look like a league two team for a lot of the time.

Happy christmas everyone, hope you're all having a cracking one. Couldn't keep a track of the game as I was assembling the kids christmas toys but great to see another win 5th in a row at home, cant be bad. We seemed to have perfected the art of late goals under brice which whelps to breed confidence and even though were not playing great I don't care as long as we keep getting 3 points. Merry xmas again to everyone Aston Villa V Burton Albion Boxing Day 15:00 - Page 3 2614569260

Merry Christmas Jim. Three welcome points, but if we play like that against Leeds on Thursday they will stuff us like the proverbial Christmas turkey! Aston Villa V Burton Albion Boxing Day 15:00 - Page 3 2614569260

Cheers VB, you're right, we need to raise our game against the teams ahead of us from now until the end of the seasons, something were yet to manage with the exception of the reading win. lets hope that Fortress Villa Park can spur the lads on to what would be an enormous win against leeds. Great that McCormack scored today as that will be a really boon to him and that could prove invaluable with African nations approaching.

I must just wish Birmingham City's new owners a very merry Christmas. They've just sacked an excellent manager in Rowett, and replaced him with a big Italian "Name". The result? Villa go above BCFC for the first time this season! Aston Villa V Burton Albion Boxing Day 15:00 - Page 3 3640643743

It's a good point about the importance of McCormack's goal to his confidence, when he becomes the main man in a few days time.

We need to stand up to leeds physically as they will battle against us and are good in the air. We need to get the balance right against leeds and this time hopefully we can take our chances this time as a few big chances we squandered against leeds last time out.

And there we will stay.

We've become quite adept at grinding out results we don't quite deserve. Results are much better under Bruce even if, perversely, I don't think our performances have been any better (I might even say, worse). We'll need more than that against Leeds.

I was thinking the same thing. He's not really hit the ground running so far but a goal will make a lot of difference to him. On paper, having him and Gestede available is a potent pair of options. Even if, in practice it's not working out quite like that. Both need an injection of confidence. You could say the same thing for Gabby but for how everything about him since he was bafflingly brought back has screamed out "yesterday's man".

We still don't have eleven players working for each other. Half of our players seem determined to carry on regardless doing their own thing on match day. We will be playing a young Leeds team on Thursday who will bust a gut for each other.

Unless our players are prepared to support each other's runs, and back up their "pressing" mates, Leeds will outwork us and take the three points home. Today's game again demonstrated our inability to string more than two passes together almost for the whole of 90 minutes, and that's due to the lack of willing and intelligent movement off the ball. If we would only play as a team we could beat anybody, not just the bottom six teams!

They don't communicate with each other on the pitch either. They've been playing together four months, how are they still not communicating and trying to be on the same wavelength?

I was surprised last week that some of our French lads still need interpreters .... That really doesn't help communication. Language classes should be mandatory. You can learn a language in three months if you put the hours in.

Even with a language barrier they should still be able to understand a shout for the ball or some encouragement from a team mate. Over the last two seasons particularly I've seen an open player wanting the ball and not getting it more times than I could count.
