We should nip in quick and buy Pontus Jansonn, a 6ft 5 ins CB who's good with his feet as well as his head. He's on loan from Torino and Leeds are desperate to buy him in a few days time. Now he's seen Villa Park near it's best he might fancy us, and with Leeds owner Massimo Cellino a few weeks away from starting an 18 months ban, we should get ruthless. Luke Ayling is another who's impressed me in both matches.

My son agrees with you Sandie that it was one of our better performances. I just can't see it, I thought all our old weaknesses surfaced after a decent first 20 minutes. I spent 75 minutes praying for a moment of individual brilliance because I couldn't see any cohesive team play at all.

We seldom have 20 decent minutes, which is an issue we keep facing. If you think over the last few games we have been workmanlike throughout and genuinely lucky to get from them what we got. A full throttle start with shots being fired in and a couple that might have been goals. Yes, we had the same issues. After about 20 minutes the midfield stopped playing entirely and after Grealish went off we lost our rhythm as well. There was also some weak defending and goalkeeping. However, one good half is better than how we usually do. It was the kind of thing that made you think that there might just need three or four additions to be great and push on. Even when we got three points against Burton, QPR and Wigan I had concerns across the pitch.
