Had another idea of picking a 'cult' XI. Not the best players but the ones the Holte took to their hearts ❤️
Any ideas? Some of my suggestions include Miloservic, Crouch and of course John Carew. Also guys like Chris Price, Kent Neilsen & Ian Olney from Graham Taylor's magnificent 2nd placed side in 1990. I'd be interested to hear some more suggestions.

Salifou would have to feature in a Cult XI. He hardly ever played, was pretty crap when he did yet ended up not only getting a song but such a memorable one. Not to forget the 'Togolese Zidane' nickname. Very Happy

There's probably loads. We all have our favourites, who weren't necessarily the stars and there are players who were just popular. Always felt Crouch had a great relationship with the Holte End, without pulling up any trees. Of course that was before players like Sylla could suck up to fans on Twitter!

I'm going to throw a different name in here .... Luc Nilis, if it hadn't have been for that horrific leg break he could have become an icon.

Great shout! Tragic that his career ended. Think he was about 33 when he signed so may not have had too long, but looked class in the games he played!

You're right about the fact that his age would have meant that he would have shone for no more than 1 or 2 seasons .... but in his three games for us he was different class! cheers

This could be controversial but would Laursen be placed in cult X1 as was a hero but not many games over a fair few years.

Laursen would be in my best team .... the guy was a Villa God with flawed knees. I loved him!

Alongside Paul McGraph you would have a duo of God's. Greatest Aston Villa XI? - Page 2 4288271622

I was there on Bouma's Villa Park debut and he made a sliding tackle at 90 miles an hour right in front of me and my sons. Frightening tackle!

I remember a game against Blackburn, think it was when we went to their place and turned them over 4-0. David Bentley took a free kick and absolutely blasted it. It hit Freddie full on the face and he shook his head a bit, held up his fingers to check he could count them and played on completely unmoved.

Rock hard.

He may not have been in their class but a left back who I loved for his total commitment even though he was tiny .... Alan Wright .... he could hit a decent cross as well.

I remember nearly chinning a fan who sat just behind me for shouting abuse at Wrighty!
