That looks like a bad long term injury for Hogan.

It's a shame for Hogan because after Kodjia was subbed Bacuna came on and looked to link with Hogan, bringing him into the game for the first time in the match. Kodjia is a selfish arse!

Adomah. Who would be one of the first names on my teamsheet, yet oddly not Bruce's.

Every one bar Bruce seems to realise that defending as deep as we do means that we are never going to link with our striker. It's a joke at the moment.

Wigan are the only team in the Championship to score less than us, and it's down to our deliberate negativity.

What happened at half time? Did Bruce say to the players .... "You were too far up the pitch first half, that's not what we asked you to do."

Whatever was said, the result's the same .... another loss! Goodnight all.

We played a lot deeper second half, after pressing well in the first half. The players didn't decide to do that themselves (in my opinion) there in lies our problem. Negative tactics produce negative results.

Newcastle weren't any better than us for a lot of the game, but Benitez was vocally pro active in organising his team through out the match. Pressure told on our dodgy defence as Rafa must have expected.

Bruce's thoughts on the game.

He says that if Kodjia doesn't score Villa don't score .... why is he playing as a left winger then Steve? He's never been a left winger, and wingers don't score nearly as much as strikers because of direct opportunities. So why is our only "scorer" doing tricks on the touchline instead of playing in the box?

Football is not rocket science, and yet even the basics seem to mystify our manager.

That plus our choice of late second half substitutions suggested that after the first goal went in our interest wasn't in fighting back but in keeping the scoreline down.

The surprising positivity that we saw for large parts of the first half, were in stark contrast to the negative approach to the second half. It's a strange way to play football.
