With season 2016/17 coming to a close in a few days with an underwhelming finish, no doubt the speculation will start to rage.

Think goalkeeper should be a priority, as Johnstone is only on loan. Maybe John Ruddy would be worth a punt: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/39780816 ?

Ruddy used to be a decent keeper, but playing behind a leaky defence takes its toll. He's 6'4" which is the right size for a keeper imo. We need experience in this position.

I would love to see Veretout return, but I think he had a belly full of Villa's woeful mismanagement. Same goes for Gil, so I guess they will be two more "what could of been players" to add to the list. We need a really pacy wide man (Ryan Fredericks tore us a new one at Craven Cottage), and we need a Pontus Jansson type CB.

Cheeky bid for Defoe anyone?

If Fulham miss out on promotion then Tom Cairney would be my number one transfer target. He would cost big bucks but he would make a hell of a difference .... only if Bruce and Calderwood move on though!

I'd like to see Veretout come back too. Less sure about Gil, he's one of those players who you often get that look good in flashes but prove somewhat lightweight and inconsistent over all.

The defence is looking good overall, it's probably the best bit of our team. That said, we lack strength in depth at centre half other than Chester and Baker who've been among our best players this season.

Left winger is a must too.

I like Baker and Chester as a pair. I'm far less convinced about Elphick as a cover CB though. If rumours are true we've scouted a couple of 6'4" CB's in the last few weeks (one at Barnsley and one in Germany).

We're looking to the loan market with Johnstone and Tammy Abraham as top targets according to the mail:

Abraham would be an excellent loan with Kodjia out for the start of the season. Johnstone may continue to improve, but I would prefer a far more experienced keeper.

It isn't Dr T squeezing the cash .... it's the rules, which is why I favour a new manager who can get more out of our existing squad. I'm not holding my breath though because it's very unlikely to happen.

Without some key additions we're going to need something approximating a Damascene conversion.

I like Steve Bruce, but he's shown absolutely nothing over three dozen games that convinces me he can get the best out of our current players. Even as a fan I can see that we're not playing to our maximum strengths, and the reason is simple .... Bruce does not play football that way. Other Championship managers have come in and had a good look at their available talent, and designed a system around those abilIties.

Steve Bruce hasn't. He's still trying to fit square pegs in round holes, and making the players look bad by insisting on a "backs to the wall, we don't need the ball system". The player's confidence has visibly drained playing a system that shouts "we're not good enough to win any other way". We will continue to fail if we continue to play Bruce's way.

With FFP constraining our transfer spending it is essential that we get 100% from our current squad. Unfortunately (in my opinion) Bruce will not be able to achieve this.

Tom Cairney would be my number one target now that Fulham have missed out on promotion, although he will cost big bucks.

Ryan Fredericks would also transform our attacking supply, but I guess Taylor has the left wing back position in his pocket.
