Good piece there. I've said before our players need to get a sports psychologist in and this season it is more true than ever. It seems like the manager's mentality is a problem as much as that of the players too. Maybe getting the sack from Chelsea and his less than positive time at Schalke has exerted a toll.

You may well be right. RDM has reverted to defensive type quicker than expected given the amount of potential goals that we've bought in at great expense. Di Matteo has to back his transfer window judgement and send out a team that is prepared to attack until the last minute of the game.There must be no thought or tactic for just holding on. We play for 90 minutes, and if we lose we deal with that only after the whistle has blown for full time.

It's these reasons that make me think that a win, however acheived, will be of great help. It will harden up the players and maybe make opposition sides play differently against us as they won't smell blood.

Of course, to get that win we're going to need a whole lot of luck if we keep retreating into our shells like a hibernating tortoise.

Teams need to be forced to re learn their approach to playing Villa. At the moment they can plan for a Villa collapse at some stage. Patience becomes their biggest tactical plan because we are the wobbliest team around.

If it becomes apparent that Villa will attack for 90 minutes win or lose then teams will have to change the way they play against us. That would put us back in the driving seat.

It's going to require a huge turnaround from players and management in mentality for that happen. Can they do it?

The good thing about the Championship is that matches come round quickly. Newcastle today, Barnsley Tuesday and a clearer picture of where Villa are at.

Considering our form and current state I don't expect us to beat Newcastle. I'd be very concerned if we don't beat Barnsley, however.

In terms of positives ahead of today I'd not be surprised to see Clark help us out and the way he's playing Kodjia is due a goal.
