RDM targetting Pantilimon according to the Mirror: http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/new-aston-villa-boss-roberto-8232488

... the Italian 29-year-old Romanian...

Pantilimon has always seemed a bit dodgy to me but I suppose he can't be as bad as the 2016 model Brad Guzan.

Guzan hasn't had the chance to play behind a well organised defence. If he regains his confidence he's a good keeper. Pantelimon is a good shot stopper but does make regular mistakes.

If Guzan is to stay we need to re-discover the Guzan of a few years ago. I think he used to be a very good keeper.

That Guzan you speak of was excellent.

It looks like our new captain will be arriving in time to shake up the lads when they return to pre season training.

Signing Elphick is a significant step in the right direction. It's not just talk, it's intent. The squad is about to have it's collective and individual arses kicked, by RDM/SD/KB the other coaches and a damned good team captain.

No where to hide now guys!

Positive words here: https://www.avfc.co.uk/News/2016/06/20/elphick-why-i-chose-villa

Tommy Elphick says he couldn’t wait to sign for Villa when he knew we were interested – and cut short his honeymoon to get the deal done.

Elphick had several days left in Italy with his new wife but elected to fly back to put pen to paper on a contact with the claret and blues.

Our new centre-half is relishing playing for what he readily describes as a "fabulous Club".

He said: "I am absolutely delighted.

"As soon as I heard about Villa’s interest, it’s something that turned my head straight away.

"To be able to come here and represent such a fabulous Club, with such a great history, is going to be a real honour for me.

"I cut my honeymoon short to sign. We had five days left.

"But, to be honest, my wife is very understanding in terms of football. It’s obviously what gives us our living.

"When a Club like Villa come calling, the least you can do is give up a few days during your honeymoon.

"Why Villa? It’s as soon as you hear the name.

"There’s not been such good times recently. But when you see what they have done over the summer with the new owner, new manager, I didn’t take too much convincing.

"There have been some great, great players play for this Club. To be able to pull on that claret and blue shirt in front of these fans is something I won’t take lightly."

As well as representing Villa, Elphick can’t wait to call Villa Park his home.

He added: "It’s a traditional, historic arena.

"I have been lucky enough to score at the stadium before so hopefully I can add a few more to my tally there in the coming seasons. That would make me very happy.

"It’s a stadium I have admired for a long time. I remember watching FA Cup semi-finals there."

The name Aston Villa and Villa Park is still a big draw for the kind of player we're in the market for. BMH is the icing on the cake.

Sinclair first victim of the clearout: http://www.scotsman.com/sport/football/competitions/premiership/rumour-mill-celtic-bid-for-sinclair-cammy-bell-snubs-hibs-hearts-joe-allen-to-celtic-rangers-eye-gilks-1-4160997 ?

He's the kind of player Celtic and the Scottish leagues would suit - a poor one.

He needs to play in a less competitive environment. This would be a good move for both Sinclair and Villa.

I'm not a Sinclair fan but I think, to play devil's advocate for a moment, there's a case for retaining him next season. As you say, he needs a less competitive place to play. He never really was a Premier division player, IMO, but he has proved himself, to an extent, in the Championship in the past. He's scored goals in that division.

The same goes for Gestede.
