We have to be careful that we don't become a retirement home for elderly footballers again. A couple of our new players are at the wrong end of the age spectrum, which is when "one last big pay day syndrome" kicks in.

We are somewhat desperate. I still can't believe we didn't seek an extra centre half in the January window. Now Bruce has twigged and we're possibly after the first hasbeen cab off the rank.

I think Bruce and Round took their eyes off the ball in January with the signing of Johnstone instead of a proper experienced keeper, and the lack of a Pontus Jansson type CB.

I also think we made a mistake moving on some of the players that we did, particularly up front and in midfield.

Keeper and CB were the major mistakes for me. The difference Pontus Jansson and Adrian (for example) could have made to our team and results!

I would also have kept Gestede, because we don't have his type of striker as an impact option now.

Gestede was also proven at this level. He got goals in spite of his limitations. Sadly, his face didn't fit.

We keep going through this cycle. We bring a manager in, throw money at him and within a window (or should that be a manager or two?) or two he's replaced and his expensive signings discarded.

If we don't break the cycle, the same will no doubt happen with Bruce and the players he signed in January. And around the carousel again we will go.

You're right, it must be a new manager ego kind of thing.
