No surprise that Sam Johnstone will be the one already done.

i would prefer an experienced keeper who is second choice at a Prem side rather than a young inexperienced keeper. I guess we need to trust Bruce's judgement here, as surely someone like Mcgreggor wouldn't have been to much of a stretch for us to get. Bruce must feel confident that Johnstone can be solid from the off!

let's hope the other loan & two/Three buys that Dr Tony referred to are 2 midfielders with a proven track record of being able to create and score goals and a left back who is really solid defensively.

I just hope that whoever we bring into the club in this window is ready to go straight into our first team and improve us. Its reported that Derby have bid 2.5 million for Lansbury which seems an utter no brainer and if were not interested I just hope that our alternative target/s tick are ready to come in and make the kind of impact that Lansbury would make.
There were a couple of no brainer type signings that Newcastle made in the summer that we effectively missed out on in Richie and Gayle, I hope Lansbury isn't another missed opportunity!!

I'm a bit behind with the above news, only just seen the link you put up from yesterday VB.

Not to be in for Lansbury would be crazy!

Alan Nixon reckoning that of the other three two are Robbie Brady and Jordan Rhodes. Neither a central midfielder and I really don't see the use of another striker.

If we're not targetting at least two decent central midfielders then mid-table is the best we can hope for.

Journo's and managers don't seem to be able to see their noses in front of their face sometimes. I hope we get it right, but I don't have a lot of faith in our decision making process at the moment.

We shouldn't be taking a chance on Johnstone as our first choice keeper. Why not offer proper money to West Ham for Adrian (he's been on the bench for the last 9 games). West Ham could sign someone like Johnstone as second keeper and make a tidy profit .... sorted!

Adrian was a very good keeper a couple of years back. Surprised he's behind Randolph now, unless he's done a Guzan and lost his ability. We have Gollini, a young keeper similar to Johnstone in many ways, who belongs to us and, like you, I'd feel a lot happier having him competing with someone like Adrian or Allan McGregor. Experienced players who could also help develop Gollini's potential.

I'd understand signing Johnstone if we were doing it permanently and had a different goalkeeping situation (as in we already had an experienced number 1) but loaning him and making him a guaranteed number 1 doesn't sit comfortable. First, it puts Gollini's nose out of joint and it wouldn't surprise me if he left. We're then left with a keeper who shares the lack of experience and who's possibly going to be ours only for six months rather than bringing through our own player.

Johnstone has more experience in lower league English football than Gollini but I don't think that qualifies someone to play for a club like ours. The pressure and expectation is far greater here.

I know nothing of this guy but a goal scoring midfielder would be useful even if he is mercurial: http://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2017/01/03/do-why-wolves-and-aston-villa-are-reportedly-interested-in-tjaro/page/1/

Ex-teammate of Bacuna's?

He's technically very good but he doesn't have the balls to play for Villa. I checked him out really thoroughly when we were first linked with him a couple of seasons back, and although he's physically well built he's weak when it comes to battling and giving 100%. Not what we need.
