I feel strangely optimistic about this one, I always do in recent times against Liverpool away. I think we could sneak a win. They have No Benteke, Lovern, Henderson and a few others, a manager under fire and a crowd waiting to turn (sounds like us ha)

I see a 2-1 win for us with Veretout and Ayew both scoring their first goals. Come on you lions!!

Have to say I'm feeling a bit confident we can spring a shock too. Can't really think why based on some of our recent performances but I genuinely am.

Some good news

Idrissa Gueye is set to return for Aston Villa at Liverpool on Saturday after returning from France where he consulted a specialist over his injury.

The Senegal international midfielder has missed Villa's last three games with a hamstring problem he suffered on international duty earlier this month.

Villa manager Tim Sherwood said: "Gana is training, he might be playing on Saturday. The specialist got a magic wand out... Paul Daniels his name was.

"He has been a revelation since he's come in. He is one of the new guys who has been outstanding. I'm really calm about the situation, I won't panic. Idrissa has probably been the best purchase."

Forward Gabby Agbonlahor is a doubt after limping out of the midweek win over Birmingham with a calf injury but winger Adama Traore is closing in on a return following an ankle problem.

"Gabby might be alright, he is a doubt and hasn't trained yet," said Sherwood, whose side have not won in the league since the opening day against Bournemouth.

"Adama is training, we'll see how he comes through all that, the work with the balls. He gives us a spark.

"They are definitely in my thoughts but only 11 can play. Jores Okore is still working on his fitness and Gary Gardner is training on Monday. We're not too bad."

Great news on Gana.

Just been reading some Liverpool forums and their opinion of us is that we are only slightly better than Sunderland.
However their opinion of themselves is poor, there is much discontent regarding their formation and the fact that by playing 3 attacking midfielders week in week out leaves them too vulnerable at the back.
It looks as though Sturridge will partner Ings up front from what the Echo is reporting so a revert back to 4 4 2 for them or a more attacking 3 5 2.
If the latter is the case this could be a great opportunity for Jack to torment them on the break.
The defence will have to hold firm and I think Richards will bd able to marshall Ings, Bacuna on Sturridge though, hmmmm.

Great news Gana is fit and available (and Traore) I agree with Tim, he has been the best purchase so far. Him Veretout, Westwood and Jack in the middle for me with Rudy, Sinclair upfront (or 4-3-3) with Jack floating. I'd also be tempted to throw in Ilori against players he knows very well. It's not like we've been super solid at RB anyway. Give him a chance.

Guzan

Ilori Richards Lescott Amavi

Veretout Westwood Gana
Jack
Rudy Sinclair/Ayew

Is how I'd go personally. UTV

I'd give Gana another week to recover and make sure that he doesn't have a flare up. He's so important to us that we need to do our very best for him. Top player!

Good to see Gana and Adama training. Not sure either will feature but they sure are a sight for sore eyes!

looking forward to this one with a cautious sense of optimism. Just hoping that our new players continue the improvement that they showed in second half against blues. Another goal would do nicely for Gestede who terrorised Liverpools defense in the FA cup last year. If we can get a positive result here then this will be enormous and give the whole team would start to look decent. Grealish was awesome in the second half against blues. We are starting to see Grealish impacting on most games now in a big way. I beleive this is the start of a superstar, i think his development is going to be rapid over the next 6 months baring he can stay clear of injuries. His dribbling ability is unrivalled and now he is starting to add goals and assists he will fast become England/Irelands hottest prospect. In fact i have always said that he will end up a real madrid (ever since seeing his hong kong 7 goals ) and I still think this will be the case, thats how talented this boy is. Right I'm going for a Villa Win and a Grealish to score a worldie!!!!!
If Ayew can get on the score sheet tomorrow then that would be just splendid also. Sleep well fellow villains I can see an exciting match ahead tomorrow.

Nice one Jim, you certainly seem up for it! I'm less sure about Grealish reaching the absolute top. I think he's got sublime skill but until he adds to his all round game I think he doesn't currently have the tools to be a fully effective 90 minute player week in week out. In my opinion it will take a couple of seasons of hard work, good coaching and total dedication (does he have that?) for JG to reach his full potential.

I agree with both of you ha! I think he can be world class. I think he will need to work to do so as you say VB, however he's natural talent is there for all to see. Does he have the mentality to match it?! I personally think so. If he can add a little work to his overall game then he will make it.

He could start by orchestrating a win today, that will help Liverpool V Aston Villa... Sat Sep 26th 3:00 Kick Off - Page 2 1554986367

I see a comparison with George Best forming. I'm not saying he's close to Bestie's class yet, but he's got similar technical attributes, and also perhaps a little bit of the Georgie boy arrogance and charm in his personality. Could he also have a self destruct button hidden away in his make up? How will he handle success and adulation if he achieves it?
