Always wary of Irish league stars. How many of them make it over here? Enda Stevens was meant to be a prospect if we recall.
Not what we need at this moment in time. Sako on loan would be a better "ready to go" option in my opinion.

We're being linked to some youngster from Greenock Morton too.

These players would be okay as punts or prospects but I suspect there will be the necessary big money signings too.

Players that we buy in January have to be better than players we have now. They also have to hit the ground running if we're to stand a chance of being promoted this season. Youngsters are great for the future.

Indeed. There needs to be a blend of "right now" players and longer term players. We need to strengthen in central midfield, out wide and maybe even a loan right back to cover until De Laet is fit again.

Steve Round will face his first transfer window test in January as recruitment is part of his portfolio. I'm sure Steve Bruce will want to select his own players, but the ground work needs to be done and a clear list of "gettable" options need to be agreed on before the transfer window opens.

With Gary Walsh arriving as the goal keeping coach, I wouldn't be surprised if a more experienced and commanding keeper is on the agenda. Gollini has plenty of ability but he also has some key weaknesses that will cost us. Even if he remains first choice, our back up keeper needs changing because Bunn is nowhere near good enough.

I'd agree that another keeper (for back up) is a necessary reinforcement unless Steer (who I think shows promise) is promoted to second choice.

Steer did okay out on loan for Huddersfield last season, but he isn't getting a look in. He played 38 times in this league (2014/15/16), so at least he should know what it's about.

Oh my, there's some out there who are actually taking this Joey Barton thing seriously. Still, it's given the Birmingham Mail something to write about.

According to Pat Murphy we have much less to spend in January due to Financial Fair Play rules. Further big money deals ruled out until the Summer?

I'm surprised that our total spend in the summer would put us near the limit. Maybe it's a negotiating ploy or is Championship spending limited to a much lower figure?

This is the rule:

The £13m limit for the 2015/16 season is in line with the losses permitted under the new regulations which will permit a maximum loss of £39m over a rolling 3 season timeframe (compared to an equivalent figure of £105m in the Premier League). A club that moves between the Premier League and Championship will be assessed in accordance with the permitted loss in the relevant divisions played in during the three-year period in question. For example, a club that had played two seasons in the Championship and one in the Premier League would have a maximum permitted loss of £61m, consisting of one season at £35m and two at £13m.

So at the moment our permitted loss would be 35x2 + 13 = 83 million over the three years up to the 2017 summer transfer window.

This might be a good move: http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/who-aston-villa-transfer-target-12203203

Remember him looking very, very impressive for Cardiff but his career has stalled somewhat since. He also plays in a position where we are weak and he might curb Westwood's near permanence in the side.

He was on fire for Cardiff, but hasn't done "much" elsewhere. There's a decent player in there somewhere though, and I seem to remember that he had plenty of energy and wasn't afraid of a tackle. We definitely need a higher energy midfield with players who can take the ball off the opposition as well as run and supply.
