Sandie wrote:Exactly. My own question is whether those guys who have Premier League suitors would be interested in coming to us in the Championship. I think our name is still something of a draw but I still think top flight status and the salaries offered by PL clubs might count against us.

I wonder whether they would be anything more than squad players in the Premier League though? They would both walk into our midfield! So big money and playing all the time, what's not to like. We've got a chance if we think big enough!

I think both could command a starting place at a lower Premier League club actually. I suppose one of the biggest things that might count in our favour is Dr. Tony and his vision.

I think the bottom seven or eight Premier teams are looking nervously at the three relegation places. Chasing promotion with Villa may be a more exciting option.

Performances like tonight's won't help our cause. It might make players look at us and suspect that our momentum isn't totally positive. Also, with each of them the list of new players we need gets longer. I'm coming round on the need to seek out a new #1 (and that makes me very skeptical about the idea of loaning a 23 year old from Manchester United) and having not really thought too much about it so far I'm now viewing an extra Centre Half as pretty much essential.

Gollini needs to be replaced by an experienced keeper. Anything else will be too risky.

Elphick is a real disappointment. He is unbelievably slow!

Westwood is Westwood.

Hutton is an accident waiting to happen.

Gabby is taking the mickey.

Six strikers and not one getting into the box.

Bruce has to get his finger out.

Last night should be the last chance for a bunch of losers.

All I can find is that he was most recently linked with Reading. An unknown quantity not worth taking a risk on for a critical few months in the Championship in my opinion.

Winner of the most far fetched, clickbait story of the pre-window period so far: http://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2016/12/19/report-bordeaux-want-aston-villas-jordan-amavi-on-loan-due-to-ne/

Thanks Sandie, this made me chuckle .... A provincial french team want a highly sort after ten/fifteen million pound player on loan, when he's playing at the top of his game??!! Transfer speculation 2016/17 - Page 33 3640643743

Indeed. In the unlikely scenario there's any truth to the story (there almost certainly isn't) and they want him and he wants to go, then they'll have to pay an acceptable fee. We're not about to rent out one of our first teamers especially when they're doing well.

Amavi has made all the right noises about staying to fight for promotion. It's players like him we need to keep to build with.

Gollini now being linked with Inter Milan according to Italian reports. I know VB isn't a fan but I'd be disappointed should that happen. We don't need rid of him, we need an experienced alternative to him who'll keep him on his toes and help him develop. I know it's a cliche but I feel being around an experienced keeper can teach a younger one a great deal.

The way the wind is currently blowing, I'd not be surprised to see Gollini depart (maybe not to Inter) and see Sam Johnstone come in as the new number 1 on loan. This would leave us no better off than we currently are with an inexperienced keeper who has promise but maybe isn't 100% ready. In fact, if it's considered that Johnstone would most likely be on loan we would probably be worse of as we wouldn't be developing our own player. There isn't a great deal of quality available in the goalkeeping market right now. At least not amongst the goalkeepers prepared to come to midtable in the Championship.

I think Gollini has real talent, but the Championship is an unforgiving classroom for a young keeper trying to learn his trade. Johnstone isn't an inspiring replacement as you say Sandie.

I agree, if he did go to Inter (not saying it's likely) I can see him becoming a top keeper and our fans going "why did we let him go?". In reality however, I think spending time out of the firing line as a number 2 and learning might actually be something that would be key to his development. Even as a 21yr old he's been a big improvement over Guzan (the 2015-16 version, I thought the 2012-14 Guzan was a top keeper) but the odd ricket has shown he has a bit to learn.

I just wonder what Steve Bruce makes of the whole thing. We saw Gollini dropped on Sunday so maybe he just doesn't rate him?
