What will happen against the rabble from Small Heath?

It's derby time as we must face that rabble from Small Heath.

Their lofty position in the league table (7th) combined with our struggles has given the poor loves some belief that they're crawling out from under our shadow. They're a well organised and well managed side will give us a bloody good game but we're starting on an upturn so should almost certainly not be discounted. We also have better players with which comes the risk of complacency but I don't think SB will let that happen.

So can Bruce continue his unbeaten start by getting us a win at his former club?

I'm saying a 1-1 draw. This is because I've said we would draw the last two and it didn't turn out too badly for us.

That said, three consecutive wins is pretty much unprecedented in the recent history of Aston Villa.

I'd settle for a point. Three would be great.

A defeat here will no doubt feel like the end of the world, but will be nothing of the sort. Merely yet another bloodied nose.

A draw at their place would be a decent point. With the chance to pick up three points against Blackburn in the following match. I'd take that .... a win against the Blues would be utopia, after our struggle through the mire of the last couple of seasons.

I'm going for a draw against a well organised side.

A draw would be ok, but after a good start they are beginning to slip a bit, I watched bits of them against Burton in between my "Dad Cab" sessions - (If you get a 7 seater you end up being Dad Cab for everyone of your kids friends Chris) - and they were poor.

Blues have always been able to get "up" for these games in the past and we have always lacked a bit of the street wise football these games and atmosphere generates, having said that Amavi, Hutton, Bacuna, Rudi, Jack, Westwood have all experienced a Villa Blues Derby at home, at the sty it will be more hostile, something that Bruceys appointment will add that little bit extra spice to. this may benefit us as alot of their hostility will be focused on him. He will also be able to work on our boys with his inside knowledge, I think we will edge it, just with a new hero and legend just waiting to be made.

Rowett will have his players fired up for this as they lost badly to Burton and will have definitely worked on keeping it tight at the back as they were all over the place in that game. That said Bruce will have the Villa players up for it and if the refereeing decisions don't go against which can happen in Derby away games, the Villa could win this without a shadow of a doubt. We have the better players after all, can we continue to play as a team is the question? I will go for a draw in this which wouldn't be disastrous, although l would much prefer VB's utopia!! UTV

I hope you're right SLV .... I hadn't thought about the Steve Bruce "super hero" tag if we win, but why the hell not. I'm revising my prediction to a 3-1 win bring it on!

http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/what-second-city-derby-really-12081476?

Tom Ross is a blue nose who loves all midland football. I've met the guy a few times and he's a good guy. This article about the derby gives me a buzz, because it says all that needs to be said about the special occasion that is a Villa vs Blues derby. If the fans rock up up in good spirits and there's no real aggro, it could be a great day!

Talking about Tom makes me realise that I miss another character .... Jack Woodward. We haven't replaced him, and AVTV is a shadow now of even its former wretched self.

I think we have to remember it's early days yet and our side still has a number of problems that will take time to resolve. We've got two wins through disciplined performances but these will only get us so far especially against a team who are playing in their cup final.

I was told - so not sure just how trustworthy it is - that if you make someone redundant (as we did with Jack) you cannot replace their position until 12 months have passed. Hence no new AVTV frontman.

I thought it was six months, but yes, it would account for the lack of a frontman.

If the position was made redundant then you're right. Maybe we'll sort out this AVTV lark some day.

Three days to go .... C'mon Villa!

I think as frustrating as the AVTV situation is for us, it will be frustrating Wyness and the Doc even more!

I know that sorting out the playing side and gaining promotion are the top priority, but presenting AVFC in a much more professional manner has to be high on the "to do list".
