Tiago Ilori is untested at premier league level but had a decent U21 tornament this summer. He is super quick and strong in the tackle. The portuguese are normally very comfotable on the ball also. Our defence has been very weak for many seasons now and the likes of clarke and baker have been given lots of chances but have flattered to deceive, despite glimpses of potential. With Lescott on board as our first choice centre back and Ilori as back up Sherwood may start to look at Richards and Okore at right back, which could solve our problem right back situation. There's Certainly competition for places in the defence now.

I like both Clark and Baker, but the number of silly errors resulting in goals has forced Sherwood to have a rethink. Lescott even at 33 years of age is a no brainer, because our defence is crying out for his kind of experience. Ilori is interesting because he's an outside bet. As you say he's never tasted Premier League football even though L'pool signed him a couple of years ago. On paper he has all the attributes to come good, maybe all he's lacked until now is the opportunity. I think he'll have to wait for two or three defensive injuries before he's thrown in but as a loan player he's useful insurance.
